Words to minutes

Estimate narration duration from your script and adjustable speaking rates.

Free · no sign-up · runs in your browser. Your input is not uploaded or stored by this tool. Up to 1 MiB UTF-8 text.

Words use a separate rate from Han characters. Rates below are editable planning assumptions.

Speaking rate range

How to use it

  1. Paste a script or open a UTF-8 text file.
  2. Set slower and faster rates that match your delivery. Han characters use their own rates.
  3. Estimate a range, then time a real read-through before committing to a runtime.

What to check

A word count is a planning estimate. It cannot measure pauses, pronunciation, music, visual holds or a generated voice. Other unsegmented languages need special care; this is not a language-aware tokenizer.

Calculation and assumptions

Estimated minutes = non-Han words ÷ words per minute + Han characters ÷ characters per minute. The faster rates produce the shorter estimate; the slower rates produce the longer estimate.

Defaults are editable examples, not a universal speaking standard. Calibrate with a read-through of your own script and add time for pauses and visuals. No audio is generated or measured.
