Aspect ratio

Aspect ratio expresses the proportional relationship between image width and height.

Updated 2026-10-29 · Topicut editorial

Meaning

Aspect ratio expresses the proportional relationship between image width and height.

A practical example

A 1920 by 1080 frame reduces to 16:9; a 1080 by 1920 frame instead reduces to 9:16.

What to check

Swapping dimensions is not a harmless export change. Decide whether the image will be cropped, padded or reframed and review important content near the edges.

For a related planning or text task, open the youtube chapter formatter. The tool has its own limits; its result is not a measurement or approval of every concept described here.
