Caption overlap

Caption overlap occurs when two or more subtitle intervals are active at the same time.

Updated 2026-10-29 · Topicut editorial

Meaning

Caption overlap occurs when two or more subtitle intervals are active at the same time.

A practical example

A cue covering seconds 1–4 overlaps one covering seconds 3–5 for one second, even if their text appears on separate lines.

What to check

Overlap can be deliberate. Inspect the intended player and speaker layout before deleting or moving cues merely to silence a warning.

For a related planning or text task, open the srt vtt converter. The tool has its own limits; its result is not a measurement or approval of every concept described here.
