Video resolution describes the pixel dimensions of a frame, such as width and height.

Updated 2026-10-29 · Topicut editorial

Meaning

Video resolution describes the pixel dimensions of a frame, such as width and height.

A practical example

A 1280 by 720 output has fewer pixel positions than a 1920 by 1080 output, but that alone does not determine perceived quality.

What to check

Upscaling changes the output grid, not the provenance of visual detail. Inspect source sharpness, compression and the actual viewing size.
