Prioritize speech-recognition review without trusting confidence scores alone
An automatic transcript can look convincing while containing a wrong surname, number or negation.
An automatic transcript can look convincing while containing a wrong surname, number or negation. Confidence scores can help triage review, but important errors also occur in apparently confident passages.
Make the decision explicit
Begin with high-consequence words: names, dates, quantities, units, quotations and negatives. Add low-confidence spans, overlaps and unusually short fragments to the review queue. Compare the actual recording rather than replacing words merely because the written sentence sounds smoother. Keep the original estimate and the accepted correction traceable.
A worked example
A fictional interview says the device did not restart. A missed negative turns that into the opposite claim, even if the rest of the sentence is perfect. In another passage, a technical identifier is replaced with a common word. A general accuracy percentage could obscure both problems. Reviewing the words that carry the argument is more useful than sorting only by confidence.
Review before handoff
After corrections, check timing as well as spelling. A transcript edit can affect word alignment and caption segmentation. Keep a short list of unresolved audio rather than guessing to complete the file. A text extractor or readability checker cannot supply the missing listening step; it only helps organize the material for review.
