Record clean narration before relying on noise repair

Noise repair is easier to judge when the original recording is already controlled.

Noise repair is easier to judge when the original recording is already controlled. Before applying processing, reduce avoidable noise, check levels and listen to a short recording through the equipment your audience is likely to use.

Make the decision explicit

Keep microphone distance and speaking position reasonably consistent. Record room sound and inspect representative speech for overload, breath noise and changes in background sound. Avoid treating an attractive waveform display as proof of clean audio. Listen at a normal level, and preserve the untouched source before applying filters or edits.

A worked example

In an invented test, two takes use the same sentence. One is quieter but clean; the other is louder and distorted at its peaks. Simply lowering the second file's exported volume does not reconstruct what was lost during clipping. A clean rerecording may be more useful than repeated attempts to hide the damage with processing.

Review before handoff

When comparing repaired and original audio, use a fair listening level and inspect consonants and pauses, not only silent sections. Aggressive cleanup can introduce artifacts. Keep notes on the recording and processing choices so a later pickup matches the rest of the narration. No specific microphone or paid repair service is required by this workflow.

Calibrate narration pace using names, numbers and real pauses

A script containing technical names, dates and long quantities may take longer to deliver than an equally long conversational paragraph.

Estimate mixed-language narration without treating every character as a word

Plan background music around speech, not the other way round

Background music should support the story without making narration harder to follow.
