Turn subtitles into a transcript without claiming the words were verified
Extracting text from subtitles is useful for a searchable transcript, research notes or a description draft.
Extracting text from subtitles is useful for a searchable transcript, research notes or a description draft. It does not improve recognition accuracy or reconstruct information that was never included in the subtitle track.
Make the decision explicit
Choose the subtitle version that matches the accepted recording. Extract the text and keep a link to that version. Decide whether the transcript needs speaker names, meaningful sounds or descriptions of visual-only actions. Avoid automatically deleting repeated words: a repetition may be speech, a caption design choice or an editing problem that needs context.
A worked example
A fictional interview track repeats the last phrase of one cue at the start of the next. A text export exposes the repetition. Before removing it, compare the recording and the caption style. The source may contain repeated speech, or the track may use rolling display. Those cases need different treatment. A duplicate-looking string alone does not establish which one occurred.
Review before handoff
When using excerpts in another format, review quotations and surrounding context against the recording. Keep uncertainty visible rather than polishing a guessed word into a confident statement. Topicut's subtitle-to-text tool performs local text extraction; it does not transcribe a video link, hear audio or approve the resulting transcript for publication.
Put the idea to work
Read transcript and use the related free workflow tool for its stated, limited task. Neither link replaces the review described above.
