Keep music sourcing and mix approval as separate records

A soundtrack can pass a listening review while still lacking a complete source record.

A soundtrack can pass a listening review while still lacking a complete source record. It can also have a clear reuse basis yet overpower the narration. Treat sourcing and mixing as separate checks so approval of one is not mistaken for approval of both.

Make the decision explicit

Record the exact track version, creator, source and applicable terms or permission evidence. Separately record the excerpt used, edits, looping and mix decisions. If a new version of the track is substituted, check both records rather than assuming a similar name means the same material or the same sound.

A worked example

In a fictional project, a reviewer approves a quiet instrumental loop under the opening. The editor later replaces it with a fuller mix of the same composition. That version may change audibility, duration and potentially the source record. The earlier listening approval does not automatically cover the substitution, even if both filenames contain the same song title.

Review before handoff

Before delivery, inspect the credit line and the actual soundtrack in the video. Keep any private permission documents out of public exports unless disclosure is appropriate. An attribution draft is not a music license, and a clean mix is not evidence that the selected audio can be used in every intended context.
